Mechanical, absorptive and freeze–thaw properties of pervious concrete applying a bimodal aggregate packing model

To optimize the pore skeleton structure of pervious concrete to enhance its phosphorus (P) removal from stormwater, small-sized adsorptive aggregate (1–2 mm steel slag) and large-sized natural (2–5 basalt), are applied for manufacture two-sized concrete. Physico-mechanical properties, adsorption performance freeze–thaw resistance investigated. The results show that slag fills pores between aggregates reduces porosity permeability concrete, significantly improving mechanical strength resistance. in this study shows an excellent P-adsorption capacity, all P is removed aqueous solution with initial concentration 168 mg/L 307 mg/L. harmful elements (Cr, Sr V, etc.) leached lower than maximum limit value. orthogonal cement main factors affecting Based on current results, sample 3 (cement: 350 kg/m3, sand: 500 W/C: 0.37, 1–2 slag: 1385.8 kg/m3 2–5 basalt: 361.3 kg/m3) good P-removal which optimal mix remove suitable durability.
